Hi, I’m Susan Alvey, and I’ve been teaching since 2004. I currently serve as the 7th grade Reading Language Arts teacher, team lead, and department head—and I truly love what I do. Helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers is one of the most rewarding parts of my day. Lubbock has always been home to me. I graduated from Monterey High School and went on to earn my degree from Texas Tech University. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Kyle, since 1993, and we have two amazing daughters: Brogan, who teaches 4th grade math at Nat Williams in LISD, and Braxton, who works as a dental hygienist at Hub City Dental. Outside of school, I’m an avid reader and love spending time on crafts. Our home is full of energy thanks to our two huskies, Willa and Freya, and our granddogs, Sadie and Marsha, who keep us laughing. Teaching is more than a job to me—it’s a calling, and I’m grateful every day to be part of such a vibrant learning community.
