Since its opening in 2017, the Frenship Ninth Grade Center has been committed to raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network through the annual Miracle Pennies Fundraiser. Each year, the Student Council and Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy collaborate to raise as much as possible for this meaningful cause.
This year, the student groups raised funds by selling dress-up day passes. They also hosted a fun food day and ran an after-school concession stand for students and staff. The fundraising period concluded with a lively campus event featuring a staff versus students volleyball tournament and spirit games.
At the event, students earned various rewards for reaching fundraising milestones. After surpassing $1,500, they had the chance to tape Assistant Principal Jeremy Fair to the gym wall, while Assistant Principal Robert Martinez spent the rest of the day wearing a tutu and crown. The biggest surprise came when the school exceeded $5,000, providing the students the opportunity to shave Principal Justin Burrus' head.
Alexandra Gomez, the student council advisor at the Ninth Grade Center, explained that the school has always been passionate about raising money for the Children's Miracle Network.
“This goes directly to help our community,” said Gomez. “Doing these events also allows our students to volunteer to help raise money for kids in need. CMN helps build a positive school culture because we are all focused on a common goal and enjoy having fun reaching that goal. This event helps us teach our students the importance of giving back and helping others in need, while showing compassion for others.”
Gomez stated that the students believe that raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network is important because the organization provides vital medical care for children in need across the community. The Children’s Miracle Network is dedicated to ensuring that no child is left behind when it comes to receiving the life-saving treatment they deserve.
With these donations from Frenship, the Children’s Miracle Network can help provide children with access to pediatric care, surgeries, treatments, therapies, and support services, all of which can be expensive and difficult to access without assistance.
"Raising money for the Children’s Miracle Network is an investment in the future of our own children,” said Gomez. “By supporting this organization, we are ensuring that kids who need medical help, regardless of their financial situation, have the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive. It's a way of coming together as a school community to help create a healthier and brighter future for every child in need.”
The Frenship Ninth Grade Center’s annual Miracle Pennies fundraiser was a tremendous success, thanks to the dedication and generosity of its students and staff. Their efforts culminated in an impressive $6,000 raised for the Children’s Miracle Network. Through their commitment to giving back, they continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in need and create a lasting impact in the community.
