Smiles, high-fives, and unforgettable moments filled the track as Frenship Special Olympics athletes gave it their all at their final competition of the year. Competing in the Special Olympics Track Meet last Saturday, these incredible athletes showcased more than just physical strength, they showed the true meaning of perseverance and joy.
Frenship athletes competed in a variety of events, including the 25-meter assisted walk, 50-meter wheelchair race, 100-meter dash, tennis ball throw, softball throw, shot put, and long jump. With each event tailored to match ability levels, the focus was on personal growth, determination, and celebrating every athlete’s unique journey.
“Our athletes were beaming with joy and were excited to be participating,” said Coach Aaron Tomlinson. “They gave their all and had so much fun doing it.”
One of the most meaningful moments for Coach Tomlinson came when several Frenship athletes raced against each other and, as soon as the event ended, celebrated side-by-side with high-fives and words of encouragement.
“That’s what this is all about,” said Coach Tomlinson. “Having fun and encouraging each other to do their best. These are the lessons that will carry over into every part of their lives.”
While the season may be wrapping up, the impact of this final meet will carry on. The experience helped boost confidence and strengthen friendships among the team, providing athletes with valuable life lessons in teamwork and encouragement.
With the competition season now complete, many of the athletes are already looking forward to their next big event, the Heart of Frenship Prom on May 2nd. It will be another opportunity to celebrate, connect, and enjoy the supportive community that surrounds them.
Coach Tomlinson extended heartfelt thanks to everyone who played a role in making this season a success.
“If it wasn’t for the volunteers and donations, these kinds of events wouldn’t happen. You are so appreciated,” said Coach Tomlinson.
Awesome job, Frenship Special Olympics! We are proud of you!
