The Heritage Middle School Symphonic Band will be performing a Concerto with HMS Alumnus Garrett Franks on Monday, October 21 at 7:30 PM at the HMS auditorium. A concerto is a special piece that showcases a soloist and is accompanied by a large ensemble.
Garrett was in the first 6th-grade class when HMS opened and began playing Bassoon. He went on to be an outstanding student at Frenship ISD, graduating in 2018. That spring, he was selected to perform with the Texas All-State Band in San Antonio.
The piece of music being performed was written in 1941 for solo Bassoon and Pisani. It was arranged for middle school band by HMS' very own Anthony Pisani, the assistant director of the HMS band.
Director of Bands, David Biel said "This is a very special event because it is unusual for a middle school band to perform such high-level music with a soloist."
